How to Hire Good People

Hire-Good-People

You understand how much people matter to your company. Good People means good fit, good collaboration, good and effective work. You have seen the gains that great colleagues and talents bring, and despaired at how a single toxic employee can severely damage your business.

So, you have resolved to hire Good People. But how?

First, figure out what positions you have open. This step is important to prevent the redundancy of positions in the company. “The best thing you can do is approach the process with the mindset of filling needs, not desks,” Rich Deosingh, district president for the Robert Half office in Midtown, added. “You are looking for the best person to fill a specific need, not just getting someone in and calling it a day.”

Then, identify what to keep and where to improve. Your technology and the tools you use have a big impact on your day-to-day recruiting and hiring efforts, so you should have quick access to data about where your candidates come from, what it cost to acquire and convert them to applicants, and if they are the right people for the job.

Now you can find the right people. Look to skills rather than experience or “gut feel”. Skills can be both technical and interpersonal, both equally essentially. By viewing potential employees through this lens, you expand the potential applicant pool in a targeted way and determine candidates’ culture fit.

If you find yourself struggling to fill a position, examine your tech. Use smart hiring tools to reach candidates. These tools can help you centralise your database, flag discriminatory language, build and maintain a talent pipeline and send targeted messages to suitable candidates.

Lastly, ensure you have a seamless recruitment process in place. Remain in contact with candidates every step of the way, and keep them updated about what they need to do. This helps you avoid candidate dropoff or being “ghosted”, and you are more likely to impress your potential hire with your great company culture!
